I'd say that the market is not putting a serious probability on either getting into permanent trouble.

Odds are good that the Federal Government would work out some kind of equity infusion if it really came to that. I'd say a street-based bailout would be the first idea. You'd see all the big banks and dealers put up equity cash to keep either/both GSE's afloat. There's too much at stake for them to just let the GSE's fail.

Besides, I don't doubt that the GSE's have enough performing assets that they can get through this, even without an infusion. The capital infusion would be necessary to ensure the investing public continues to believe in the GSE's as going concerns.Accrued Interesthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096191765979971184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30643134.post-8324671412934131342007-11-24T00:01:00.000-05:002007-11-24T00:01:00.000-05:00Can you make any comments on how Freddie's earning...Can you make any comments on how Freddie's earnings have impacted the market for agency paper? Aside from wider spreads, I can imagine there were a whole raft of people doing quality spreads between subprime and agency paper. What are the practical ramifications of this in the debt market?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30643134.post-1512928524480737052007-11-22T00:14:00.000-05:002007-11-22T00:14:00.000-05:00Only a monk in the 7th century toiling constantly ...Only a monk in the 7th century toiling constantly with the light of a single candle every day of the year could find a molecule (I know, molecules weren't invented then) of hope in this post.

My translation of the post:

Theoretically, things might get better for the GSE's.
